陽明春天 - Vegetarian degustation

I went to vote in the legislative election at my old primary school...ahhh...good memories of the year I spent there - short walk to school via a mountain path, no competition/pressure, and no caning (until I got to the next/3rd school, where we got caned for ridiculous reasons like...not being quiet enough ;p)

Mum's friend took her to a really classy vegetarian restaurant a bit further up in the mountains, and she said we have to go and appreciate the care they've put into the garden and the food. Degustation for lunch? don't twist my arm ;)

(left to right) - pine nuts with sweet potato puree, tofu with cumquat, lotus root with sticky rice, konnyaku with sea grape

a really cool san choi bow - lettuce with cheese + taro puree encased in a crispy cocoon of fried rice noodles

waitstaff: "please do not eat the decoration". LOL

this is from mum's set - i had to take a photo of mushrooms on top of a mushroom XD

palate cleanser - lavender and passionfruit vinegar, with cherry blossoms from the garden
so good, I wanted refills!

a huge steak-like mushroom with black truffle; tasted like abalone actually

佛跳牆 - literally "Buddha jumps wall"...so named because it's aroma could tempt the Buddha (even though it's normally a meat dish)! This one had 10+ ingredients, including betelnut flower!

seasoned bamboo shoot

sweet soup with red bean, purple rice and steamed taro

Yangming Spring - 陽明春天

beautiful surroundings with plenty of outdoor seating for tea, good service, and top-notch food, without reliance on the usual soy-derived products

highly recommended :)

This is absolutely amazing!! I can really see what your mum's friend meant by "....to appreciate the way they prepared the food..." - I'm extremely impressed indeed!

yeah, it was all very pleasing to the senses, but very dear by TW standards (the sets are $35 and $50 incl. service charge). Well, for a non-business lunch anyway.

extra impressive as it was all vegetarian.

yeah, it would be nice to a have a restaurant like this in Syd, but the capital would be phenomenal...

as would the cost to us consumers :p

Looks like a very impressive restaurant. However, the mushroom steak with truffle just seems a bit too common to me esp the sauce and garnish. Did you like the taste of it? And, I notice that they probably did not clean the pate before brining it to the table!

Hi anon,

that was the least favourite dish for me, mainly because it was way too big for something so subtle in flavour. The sauce was a bit bland, but apparently took hours to make (like many of the other dishes). Also packed with collagen, I was told. In fact all the dishes are supposed to be good for the body.

I was pretty happy with the rest, both taste and presentation. The splash of sauce was probably a one-off.

you probably have much higher expectations than me though. Hope you enjoy it if you go :)
