Dong Xuan Market

I thought the old quarter where i stayed was a hub of commerce, but i soon realised how wrong I was. The little streets to Dong Xuan market were lined with so many shops it was indescribable. In fact, all ground floor spaces were used for some sort commercial activity or other, and I wondered what new things Dong Xuan market could possibly offer.

jade vegetables and kitsch statues (well, to me anyway...i really don't want a giant fish or glowing vases at home!)

Dong Xuan Market

Dong Xuan market turned out to be a wholesale place full of clothing, shoes, fabric, accessories etc

How cool are these 'paintings' that double as clocks and calendars?

Some of them have a somewhat 3D effect as well; the ocean waves shimmer and move as if blown by a breeze, and sea creatures sway back and forth...if you don't want something so trippy you could always get the Uncle Ho clock...LOL

my favourite section - rolls and rolls of colourful fabric, and vendors sitting atop cross-legged, eating lunch, talking on the phone, chatting to each other

fabric

these are popular patterns with older women, who wear what look like pajamas - long sleeved buttoned top and pants - all in the same fabric; not the best look haha, but I think these would make really cool retro skirts or dresses

my favourite photo - catching some zzz's

During my time there, USD$1 = ~ 19,300 Vietnamese Dong
